‘Never enough, never fair’ marks our point of entry into leo.’s blissful, hazy artistic universe. It’s a rather dreamy and elegant place, one steeped in tender folk goodness and hypnotic vocal allure. leo. is not new to these sorts of forays. For the uninitiated (just like we are), it would be good to take a wider look at the project’s productive and popular catalogue so far: active since 2018, the Portuguese talent was able to amass millions of streams on Spotify alone, all thanks to a truly authentic and relatable brand of bedroom-produced acoustic pop-folk. Now based in the UK, leo. seeks to widen the aural premise behind his artistry.
‘never enough, never fair’ does exactly that. Packing a wealth of lush tones and quaint orchestral flair, the piece moves with cinematic nostalgia, hinting at faraway melancholia, yet maintaining a strikingly heartwarming and wholesome character. leo.’s charming and playful vocals crown the sonic formula with nuance and precision, showcasing all of the boundless musicianship enjoyed by the Portuguese creative.
Expanding on the creative circumstances that brought the new record to life, leo. explains: “‘never enough, never fair’ was the first song we worked on when we got back in the studio for this new project. I wrote it in late spring 2024, when I noticed that even though I could have sworn no one wanted the sun to come back more than me, everyone around me still seemed to be having a better time. I was always missing out on the best parts of it all, as if they could only truly happen if I wasn’t around.”
