Not all records strive for the maximum amount of cultural impact. Some take a tangent towards escapism and meditation, simply existing in the sonic realm, translating instrumental goodness into moods and evocative feelings. ‘Walking In The City’ fits the brief rather perfectly, embracing an uplifting and playful adventure into soulful grooves and funk melodism. A sunny, heartwarming piece, the record is part of a three-track EP, ‘Walks’, a self-explanatory effort that focuses on capturing precise moments in time.
Kinetic and vibrant, ‘Walking In The City’ can be seen as a functional soundtrack, a cinematic companion to introspection and relaxation. Behind such a quirky and genius offering, we find French musician Mark J Soler, the sole creative entity behind his compositions. Wearing a variety of hats, including software engineer and author, the Paris-based artist enjoys a wide array of eclectic influences. That’s perhaps what allows ‘Walks’ EP to be so diverse and intriguing.
Delving deeper into the ethos behind the record, Soler explains: “Walking is known as one of the best remedies to evacuate dark thoughts and get back to a positive inner vision of the external world. I live near Paris. I walk a lot in the city that communicates its energy and beauty. The song is about that.”
