Bleach Dreamer Debuts with Gloomy Post-Punk EP ‘If You Even Care’

‘If You Even Care’ fits the brief of an alternative ‘The Crow’ soundtrack. The right balance between dark post-punk tones and 80s-coded synth-pop sheen.

‘If You Even Care’ is the EP that introduces us to Bleach Dreamer’s precise, complex aural vision, a slice of leftfield allure drenched in haunting tones and melancholic nostalgia. It’s also the record that marks the Canadian project’s worldwide debut, an artistic adventure that is indeed starting on a positive note. You see, what strikes us the most about ‘If You Even Care’ is its committed identity; Bleach Dreamer knows exactly what it stands for, and hits the ground running. Well produced and aptly written, the EP will appeal to any alternative, leftfield-driven listeners out there.

We certainly fall in that demographic. To us, ‘If You Even Care’ sounds eerily sublime, brooding, nocturne goodness wrapped in 80s post-punk flair and darkwave influences. What’s not to like? Bleach Dreamer’s musical output is both electrifying and gloomy, the sort of project that could write an alternative soundtrack to The Crow movie (1994, remember?). British outfit The Cure also comes to mind. Featuring three tracks, ‘If You Even Care’ masters the art of sombre textures, with complex rhythms layered under poised cinematic arrangements and new wave-style guitars.

If the opener ‘Paradise Cove’ finds solace in ethereal atmospheres, follow-up ‘Not Another Happy Ending’ embraces a louder post-punk and post-rock livery, just before ‘Diamond Eyes’ takes the record to a close with a more relatable synth-pop sheen. We should mention that there are also a number of gothic references throughout the whole record. Meaning, it’s a plastic effort; it draws from a vast variety of sources. ‘If You Even Care’ is out now via Star Seeker Records.
