It’s good to observe Mohawk Castle’s perseverance in his musical mission. Following up from last year’s album ‘Die For Love’, celebrated by Mesmerized as “a contemporary and kaleidoscopic record”, the Los Angeles-based talent returns today with yet another example of his purposeful, thematic artistry, ‘Music From a Cloud’. Known by day as Erik David Hidde, the gifted musician and songwriter is particularly known for crafting meaningful material, songs that often dive deeper into emotional challenges and religious resolutions. Not everyone might relate to them, but it’s all truly authentic towards Hidde’s own life journey.
That’s what art should be, isn’t it? A committed, pure act of self-expression and lyrical honesty. ‘Music From a Cloud’ moves fiercely in that very same direction, uncovering a hazy, brooding electro-pop coffer, all tinted with ethereal sound design and aleatory vocal harmonies. It’s a uniquely placed effort, one that’s as experimental and boundary-pushing as it is hypnotic and fringe. Notably, the track will also feature in a future album, already setting the cornerstone for a productive year.
Delving deeper into ‘Music From a Cloud’, Mohawk Castle explains: “It was inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ and how to break free from sinful nature by discovering a lasting relationship with our creator and saviour who died for our sins. As far as artists that inspired this “Music from a Cloud”, Thom Yorke’s solo music is always inspirational to me, although I wanted this song to be more uplifting and bright in the vein of LCD Soundsystem.”
