Scirii Returns with Another Haunting, Introspective Jewel, ‘Elixir’

Scirii achieves something incredible, blending melancholia and euphoria in a deeply introspective, vulnerable and haunting offering. ‘Elixir’ explores the trepidation of falling in love.

The keen reader will gladly remember Scirii, British songstress with a knack for evocative, haunting pop matter and introspective lyricism. Writing about ‘Femme Fatale’ last year, we celebrated the project as “championing a quirky, luscious sonic allure, embodying sultry melodies and lyrical decadence all framed into a femininity-driven empowerment charge”. We stand by our words; Scirii is not just making music, she’s effectively world-building, creating an authentic, personal artistic world packed with resonant imagery and deep vulnerability.

‘Elixir’ confirms all our suspicions about Scirii: marking her third release to date, the song continues to slowly uncover the project’s fairytale-coded, anthemic character, a brooding concoction of melancholia and euphoria. It’s a feeling that’s perhaps hard to describe, but that sounds incredibly magical and hypnotic to the listener. Scirii’s vocals are delivered with charm yet with restraint, favouring long notes and hazy melodies. There’s something sacred about it all, even timeless. As the intensity rises throughout the song, the record shifts into a more chaotic mode, with a stutter effect giving ‘Elixir’ a contemporary, modern shine.

In true Scirii fashion, the single embraces deep honesty and introspection, exploring the deepest corners of human nature. As the gifted artist explains: “‘Elixir’ came from falling in love for the first time… but more specifically, from understanding what that means for someone like me. It explores the sweetness, fear, and obsession that come with unexpected vulnerability, especially when you’ve never truly believed in love, and suddenly find yourself intoxicated by it.”
