We are having a strong start to 2026. Lots of super talented artists coming through! One of them is JAKEWITHSPACES!, blowing our minds with an offering that feels unique and daring. It’s unlike anything we have heard before; ‘COLD LIKE THE A/C BROKE’ occupies a quirky aural space, one drenched in imaginative hip-hop, bubbly electronica, and leftfield textures. Crowning it all, we find JAKEWITHSPACES!’s otherworldly vocals, truly striking and hard-hitting. Written and produced by the Boston-based artist himself, the record can be seen as the unfiltered musical vision of an individual who’s not content with the status quo.
In fact, one of the project’s goals for the new year is to “create something that no one has remotely ever thought of, especially on the arrangement aspect of hip hop and electronic music! trying to expand and break new ground.” That’s an ethos we can stand behind, and frankly, JAKEWITHSPACES! has already partly achieved it. The listening experience around ‘COLD LIKE THE A/C BROKE’ is rather hypnotic, like an electrifying fever dream that takes our mind into unexpected places. Perhaps it could be admired as a flow of consciousness; there’s not a real intro or outro, with the track going straight to the point, and leaving us just as abruptly as it came into our lives.
A word of warning, ‘COLD LIKE THE A/C BROKE’ is only available on YouTube and social media for now, as JAKEWITHSPACES! seeks to experiment outside of the conventional streaming landscape. That’s perhaps also the reason why the piece is so short, catering to the shorter and shorter attention spans of the internet age.
