Dog Years Announce New Album with Slick Single ‘A Different Animal’

Gen Z would probably describe ‘A Different Animal’ as the ‘beginning of a new era’ for Dog Years. It is indeed true that the Newcastle-based group has been silent for a while, precisely since their 2019 album ‘A Flame in Waiting’. A lot has changed since then. Trust us, a looooot. Yet, Dog Years haven’t lost their passion for music and songwriting, so much so that they felt it appropriate to steal precious time from family life and other adult chores to rehearse new material. ‘A Different Animal’ is the result of those short sessions in a dusty (maybe?), gritty (perhaps?) rehearsal room in Northern England.

Out now, ‘A Different Animal’ sounds bold and euphoric, yet also measured and controlled. It’s eclectic rock’n’roll pushed through a wisdom filter, a slice of rolling drums and slick guitar distortions shifting quickly from alternative territories to the punk underground, passing through psychedelic imagery and an overall playful allure. The track is taken from the group’s upcoming album ‘MEGAFAUNA’, expected in March next year. Dog Years are Simon Fee (guitar/singing), Carly Fee (singing/keyboard), Gary Bell (bass), and Rob Payne (drums).

Delving deeper into the forthcoming record, Dog Years explain: “It takes several jagged detours through musical history, flicking rapidly through the channels, clambering for catharsis, trying to escape its own skin. Powerpunkprogpop without the bloatware. It’s basically all the songs off the album mashed into one to save time. Tap your toe and sing along. Would you kindly step outside?”
