The keen reader will be aware of how much we love expansive guitar tones and dreamy distortions. It was then natural for us to discover Bliss Abyss, Oakland, CA-based outfit oscillating between visceral dream-punk and chaotic shoegaze allure, always delivering on their promise. Led by singer and guitarist Peter Wallner, Bliss Abyss have recently released their debut single, ‘star’, a hypnotic and luscious offering featuring a solid bassline and immaterial textures, a marriage of intents that appears to be working extremely well so far.
In fact, that’s what most draws us towards Bliss Abyss: the constant push-and-pull between loud punk influences and ethereal, dreamy pulsions, making for a listening experience that’s imaginative and awashed with escapism, yet euphoric and grandiose. Delving deeper into the upcoming album, Wallner explains: “dreamlike confessions where heartbreak and desire unravel like method actors impersonating the weather, haunted objects, Polaroid character studies, and feral instincts; cosmic vignettes that are as intimate as they are surreal.”
