It’s great to see Mercy Kelly back, drawing the curtain on what’s been a crucial and transformational year for the British indie outfit. Oh, they have changed, alright! They have changed so much to have shifted from a five-member lineup to a quartet, a feature that doesn’t hinder their sonic charge. In fact, Mercy Kelly’s latest effort, ‘Out In The Night’, sees the Manchester-based group at their best, unveiling a fierce and intense indie and alt-rock laden journey that feels potent and cathartic, certainly slightly melancholic and introspective.
Compared to ‘Breathe for Her’, ‘Out In The Night’ feels more mature and pop-leaning, packed with anthemic charge and a heightened degree of relatability. It’s obvious how Mercy Kelly are slowly maturing beyond the pure indie influences of their beginnings, both in aural terms and songwriting efforts. ‘Out In The Night’ is empowering and romantic, certain going deeper than some of the band’s previous material. What’s not to like? ‘Out In The Night’ is made to be the crucial part of a festival headline… just wait and see!
Recorded at Kempston Street Studio in Liverpool (formerly Parr Street) earlier in the spring, the single sees Mercy Kelly teaming up with long-time collaborator Alex Quinn, an artistic partnership that appears to be working incredibly effectively. Overall, we are pleased by ‘Out In The Night’, and we are confident that the group will enjoy a phenomenal 2026.
