Seems only yesterday when we were writing about ‘ocd’, praising it as “a deep dive into fashionable indie territories and guitar-driven euphoria”. We stand by our words; it was very clear back then how Tamar Berk had struck sonic gold, blending early ‘2000s indie influences with quirky dream-pop allure. Such a potent formula is once again put on display, albeit slightly modified. ‘indiesleaze 2005’ is taken from the aforementioned album, with the Californian songstress indulging in a poppier tune, one that’s nostalgic and slightly melancholic, certainly relatable.
Blending groovy indie grooves, fuzzy guitars and hazy vocals, Berk draws heightened inspiration from the messy DIY music landscape of the mid-noughties, a time that felt carefree, chaotic, yet fresh and deeply creative. It was the peak MySpace era, and anything seemed possible, as the internet was slowly democratising the music industry. Things would strikingly change not long after.
Delving deeper into ‘indiesleaze 2005’, Tamara recalls writing the song while living in Chicago back in the day: “I was starting new bands constantly. All of us were still young, still hungry, still chasing the idea that music could change everything. But at the same time, people around me were beginning to think about families, money, ‘real life.’ It felt like we were taking our last big swing before adulthood really set in. We were playing shows, partying, and being as chaotic as possible, like we knew that moment wouldn’t last forever.”
