The reader might not know this, but Seven Nation Army have quite a long history behind them. They were around during the Myspace Era, for instance. They witnessed the power of virality before anyone else, with their digital presence helping them reach a loyal audience in the US and Europe. That was 2007, and after a few albums and countless releases, the Polish group are not done yet. That said, it’s important to note the cornerstone behind the whole project, the human who has been the only constant in Seven Nation Army’s prolific journey: Jarek Balsamski.
He’s still going strong today, as the Krakow-based band shares their latest effort, the album ‘Electro Time’. Originally released in the summer, the record is still quite relevant, and especially timeless. Drawing from a vast pool of influences, the LP explores electro-pop and synth-rock territories with a certain grittiness and industrial flair, perhaps borrowing something from the British new wave movement too.
Packing eleven hard-hitting and intense pieces (including a Kasabian cover), ‘Electro Time’, uncovers a rather dark and gloomy listening experience, yet one that’s energetic and somewhat raw. As Balsamski explains: “I began dreaming of recording such an album in the mid-1980s, during the dark days of communism in Poland. For many reasons, it was a very bold dream at the time. Finally, dreams have come true … after 40 years.”
