Lois Leon Unveils Vibrant Alternative Cut ‘Slow Motion’

I love this record! I truly do. Spearheaded by English songstress Lois Leon, ‘Slow Motion’ grows on the listener pretty quickly. Introduced by unsuspecting acoustic guitars and poised drum grooves, the track soon blooms into a gritty and vibrant ’90s-flavoured cut, an explosion of energy and charisma that never goes over the top. Instead, it keeps Leon’s Britpop euphoria masterfully bottled up into a friendly package, a format that makes the single certainly alternative, but also approachable and targeted to a wide audience.

Mentioning seminal acts such as Sleeper, Embrace, and Radiohead, Lois is very aware of the cultural landscape she’s venturing into. Borrowing a part of her musical taste from her dad’s records, the British creative also fits in the nostalgic ’90s resurgence that’s happening all around us. In that sense, ‘Slow Motion’ is a timely record, one that threads the fine line between alternative charge and melodic allure. Leon’s hypnotic, melancholic vocals are a perfect match.

Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the song, Lois Leon explains: “I wrote this song around a year ago during a difficult period of uncertainty. Lots of big life events and transitions seemed to hit me all at once. My Dad had suddenly passed away a few years prior, and this song was almost a reflection of that period of time. Writing is how I get all those big feelings out, and this song was one of the outcomes of that.”
