Once Again, Tom Minor Reflects on Today’s Political Landscape

Why do I like this record? Well, first of all, it is heartwarming and traditional. It feels familiar, like an old friend who greets you at the door after a period of turbulence. Secondly, this old friend is also wise and far-sighted, helping us decode the current political landscape from a historical perspective. Quite prophetic, we must say. Such a friend is the one and only Tom Minor, a London-based troubadour with a productive track record of eclectic pop and rock pieces, all songs with a particularly meaningful lyrical contour.

You don’t believe us? Just check out our previous feature for ‘Loneliest Person of Earth’, celebrating the piece as “playful and quirky melodies, giving the track a rather catchy and memorable character”. Well, the script only marginally changes in ‘Bring Back the Good Ol’ Boys’: still finding refuge in power-pop and gentle rock’n’roll territories, the song looks outward, reflecting on the gloomy political landscape around us and the way we let authoritative tendencies just happen.

As always, Minor has teamed up with producer Teaboy Palmer, known as “the Shadow Morton of Muswell Hill”, helping make the track truly retro-flavoured and hard-hitting. Delving deeper into the record, Minor explains: “A tongue-in-cheek take on our limitless ability to repeat old mistakes, fall for the promises of authoritarian leaders and willingly ignore the fact that those shows often end not with a wistful last waltz but the ominous beat of our own marching feet.”
