James Darcy Returns with Introspective Gem ‘Adelina’

It’s been quite the year for James Darcy. The Irish creative did something very special and courageous: sharing his artistic expression with the world. Folks might not realise this, but to share something so intimate and meaningful with others implies a certain vulnerability and confidence, all qualities that Darcy had to reckon with in the past year or so. Yet, we are glad he did; back in September, ‘The Middle’ marked the project’s debut effort, giving us all a glimpse of James’ heartfelt, poignant songwriting.

Just last week, Darcy returned with another slice of tender, evocative goodness, ‘Adelina’. Shifting the attention from interpersonal relationships (as seen in ‘The Middle’) to honest introspection, the piece develops over a truly elegant and cinematic arrangement, with orchestral strings and escapism-driven textures crowning the track. Later, a dramatic, a spacious drum groove enters the sonic landscape, adding a great deal of epicness and anthemic flair to an already potent record.

Delving deeper into the addiction-themed lyricism behind the song, James Darcy explains: “To me, Adelina (the character in this song) is the physical embodiment of an addiction, whether it be drugs, alcohol or others. The narrator tells a story of his struggles with addiction; he sees the addiction in a female physical form and calls her Adelina”.
