Just over a month ago, we were praising Alessia Selini as providing “a slice of immersive elegance in an otherwise chaotic reality”. We stand by our words; the Italian songstress appears to have perfected her soothing, evocative brand of stripped-back indie pop, making it a joy to listen to. Lyrically meaningful and nostalgic, sonically tender and gentle. What more could you wish for? Perhaps an EP? ‘One Step At A Time’ is Selini’s latest effort, a four-track EP that collects the project’s last four singles (‘Float’, ‘New Places’, ‘Clouded’) and a brand new piece, ‘How It Feels’.
In true Selini’s style, ‘One Step At A Time’ carries a great deal of cinematic prowess and aural elegance, with heartwarming pianos and nocturne textures supercharging Alessia’s malleable, luscious vocals, always delivered with a certain introspection and dreaminess. Having renowned producer Chris Camilleri on board helped the Italian creative give the EP a slightly brighter outlook, for instance, in ‘Clouded’. Threading the fine line between relatable pop and hypnotic soul melodies, Selini crafts another masterpiece, one that will certainly find its way into our daily listening habits.
