Believe it or not, this is not the first time we have come across a real-life, full-time doctor making music on the side. If you think about it, it’s probably very healthy for a medical professional to have an outlet for self-expression and personal catharsis. Simply, art is good for the soul. ESTRADA Music Project knows that well: hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, the talented songwriter and doctor has recently returned with his latest effort, ‘I don’t need to hide anymore’, a declaration of independence and resilience, so to speak, a way to truly embrace his real persona, without needing to hide parts of it.
Writers write about what they know. That’s common advice. Hence, ESTRADA Music Project focuses on the vulnerabilities around the medical profession, especially when it comes to presenting a version of oneself that’s poised and curated. In particular, it explores the divide between the man behind the art, boasting tattoos and creative flair, and the man behind the doctor, having to partially tame his eclectic appearances.
No more, says ESTRADA, doing so with melancholic and anthemic electronic pop, a slice of gloomy synth-pop goodness framed in catchy lyricism and empowering songwriting. As the talented troubadour explains: “I work in a hospital from 9 to 5, and in the evenings from 7 to 11, I write songs… I’m surrounded by the love and support of an extraordinary woman and two amazing children. God has filled my life with so much love, I can’t help but let it flow through the music I write. This is who I am: a man, a son, a husband, a father, a friend and a doctor.”
