Glam Sam and His Combo with Angelina Return with Soulful Piece ‘Sweet Summer Nights’

The keen reader might remember the uplifting and elegant jazz-disco of Swedish-based musician Glam Sam and His Combo and British songstress Angelina. Hypnotised by their magical and unique artistry, we previously described the project as potentially “becoming a staple in jazz clubs and smoky, retro venues worldwide”. We stand by our words, as Glam Sam’s follow-up, ‘Sweet Summer Night’, aptly showcases. Turning the temperature down, the record embraces a stronger soulful flair and a ballad-driven quality, yet never really forgetting its wider dance-oriented ethos.

As it’s common with Glam Sam and His Combo, the piece comes in two versions, the first one denominated ‘The Sweets for My Honey Groove’ – nocturne, tender and sultry – and a second one marked as ‘The Hip in The Club Groove’, sharing a fiercer, groovier identity. Angelina’s evocative, dreamy and malleable vocals are a perfect match for such a quirky and attractive record. Mats Samuelsson, the human behind Glam Sam, does a great job on the production and arrangement, threading the fine line between jazz tradition and contemporary allure.

Delving deeper into the single, Angelina explains: “I first listened to the track on the train heading into London to meet Mats aka Glam Sam for the first time. By the time I arrived at Waterloo, the lyrics were already written. I even sang the first idea for the vocal melody while queuing at a street food stall. His response? ‘WOW… I really, really like this. Don’t change a thing!’”
