It didn’t take us long to immerse ourselves in Kaneb Andrews’s artistic universe. The Brooklyn-based musician has recently released a heartwarming, meaningful EP, ‘False Prophets’, a record that’s personal and nuanced, but also vibrant and sonically rich. In fact, it’s the perfect balance between eclectic indie-folk elegance and introspective songwriting, making for an EP that feels rather intimate and tender, a look into Andrews’s own life as he deals with self-doubts and life changes.
Packing five stunning episodes, ‘False Prophets’ contains a surprisingly large amount of rock-leaning matter, slowly moving the EP into indie-rock territories. Perhaps it would be better not to fixate on a specific genre-core, instead enjoying Kaneb Andrews’s overachieving artistry, wherever it might take us. As the title implies, ‘False Prophets’ gracefully inquires about one’s idols and loyalties, threading the fine line between vulnerability and faith. On top of that, the record also seeks to find a sustainable path forward, as Andrews leaves the past behind in search of a better future.
Delving deeper into the EP, the American talent explains: “I think this EP is me trying to figure out what and who I believe in. ‘False Prophets’ is a good title in that way, because it suggests that there are some people worth believing in, and there are some who might not be all that they promise. It suggests that I’ve believed before and been burned.”
