KINSALE Share Malleable, Nostalgic EP ‘Nights & Weekends’

Good things take time. That’s why ‘Nights & Weekends’ took a few years to get to completion. Writing song after song and patiently sculpting their fuzzy, evocative rock character, American outfit KINSALE has finally found their voice and artistic soul, unveiling an EP that’s meaningful and heartwarming, yet energetic and rowdy. Overall, it appears to be oscillating between two extremes, that being punchy alt-rock and more malleable country goodness. It’s a great compromise, as it allows KINSALE to pursue both relatable songwriting and potent instrumental charge.

Produced by Damon Moon at Standard Electric, ‘Nights & Weekends’ showcases the artistic maturity of Raymond Gurley (Vocals, Guitars), Jeff Malpass (Bass, Engineering) and David Thornton (Guitars, Piano), the talented folks behind KINSALE. Based in Atlanta, GA, they have been playing together for a variety of years, and in truth, their alchemy is easily noticeable on the record. There’s a certain restraint in their compositions; not a useless note is played. This marks a strong maturity and a commitment to their songs.

Drawing influences from the likes of The War on Drugs, Wilco, and R.E.M., among others, KINSALE thread the fine line between mainstream glory and niche guitar-based fame. ‘Nights & Weekends’ is relatable and welcoming enough to speak to a wider audience, yet their overall ethos is quite precise and partly retro, at least in its sonic character. A record worth your time.
