Big things from Big Sleep! We previously celebrated the Dublin-based rock quartet as “threading the fine line between shimmering indie guitars and nostalgic pop melodies, slowly carving out a style that’s uniquely their own”; we stand by our words. ‘Crude’ is another example of that, an evocative, melodic indie piece steeped in heartfelt songwriting and dreamy guitars, yet still carrying the band’s fuzzy twist and euphoric character.
We love how the single slowly evolved from functional minimalism and tenderness to more anthemic sections, ending in a cathartic and emotional triumph of guitars, vocals and drums… incredibly hypnotic. It’s perhaps here that we meet Big Sleep at their kindest. Delving deeper into the song, they explain: “It’s about someone whose innocence remains intact, and whose heart stays open, even after the world hasn’t been kind to them”.
