Mykola Returns with Unconventional Heartbreak Anthem ‘Always Lead To You’

There’s a truckload of bold, powerful lyricism in ‘Always Lead To You’. Some might see it as a breakup song, but under the hood, the piece is way more complex. In fact, it all starts from Mykola’s diverse creativity, imagining himself as the toxic ex in a playful and tongue-in-cheek way. From there, the record explores wider themes such as bisexuality and hidden desires, in what’s perhaps a rather cathartic effort for the New York City-based talent. A proud member of the Queer community, the Ukraine-born artist feels as expressive and motivated as he’s ever been.

Entirely self-produced, ‘Always Lead To You’ has been a very independent endeavour by Mykola. Sculpting the sonic image exactly as he wanted it, the single explodes into a whirlwind of bright synths and hard-hitting electronic beats, making the record both contemporary and nostalgic. Inspired by the likes of Marina and Lady Gaga, Mykola champions a heartfelt brand of mainstream pop, uncovering songs that are quite intimate and authentic, but also relatable and welcoming.

Delving deeper into ‘Always Lead To You’, Mykola explains: “Everyone sings about their ex like the ex is the villain; I wanted to be the toxic ex blowing up your phone all night. The song is silly and fun, but it also explores bisexuality and the complications, desires, and freedom that come with it. It can have multiple meanings depending on how you listen. I turned it into a dance-pop track and produced the whole thing myself over a couple of months.”
