Saint Friday Introduce Themselves with Vibrant Cut ‘REASON’

We are deeply impressed by Saint Friday’s debut effort. Unveiling their vibrant blend of ‘bubble grunge’, as they playfully described it, the Philadelphia-based duo seems to oscillate between guitar-powered indie euphoria and rowdy dream pop, essentially unpacking guitar distortions and wrapping them into a shinier, luscious mainstream livery. That’s also why ‘REASON’ resonates with us so much: we love Helen Fordyce’s hazy, hypnotic vocals, here delivering melodic and expressive songwriting with magnetic flair and an overly cool tone.

A sibling duo, Saint Friday is completed by Johnny Fordyce, lending his nostalgic guitar prowess to the cause. The overall 90s flavourings in their music align the group with like-minded projects such as Momma and Rocket, effectively making them part of a wider movement. We do love the aforementioned bands, letting us relate quite heavily to ‘REASON’. Let’s dive deeper into the song itself: have you ever been in a toxic, co-dependent relationship you can’t walk away from?

As Helen explains: “It is about what it’s like to be in a toxic, rollercoaster-like dynamic with someone. It’s draining and unhealthy, but exhilarating and addictive at the same time.” ‘REASON’ is part of a four-track EP, which we cannot wait to find out more about. In the meantime, we’ll have the debut single on replay. Stay tuned!
