The keen reader might remember RIMENY from a feature we published just over a month ago, celebrating ‘I Can’t Talk To My Friend’ as a “nugget of uplifting energy and contemporary pop allure”, a definition that well summarises the whole ethos behind the project. Spearheaded by composer and producer Zak Engel, RIMENY sees the American creative getting back to songwriting, especially after a successful career as an audio engineer in the film and soundtrack industry. Back in our previous article, we teased an upcoming EP, ‘World As Myth’, which is now out in the world for everyone to enjoy.
Overall, the record is bright and catchy, a slice of popular charisma in sonic form. It feels like an emotional release of sorts for Engel, a way to embrace lighter, more playful territories. It works: packed with six wonderful pieces, ‘World As Myth’ is vibrant and wholesome, steeped in personal, relatable songwriting and contemporary pop and indie production. A specific shout-out must be given to Zak’s engaging and precise vocals; he can certainly sing!
Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the album, RIMENY explains: “‘World as Myth’ explores philosophies on how I want to live, celebrates my ethos of asking the world for what you want, while cherishing the people we get to share it with. It steals from Heinlein a bit, too. World as Myth is a reflection on time, growth, and communication.”
