A nuanced and unique work, ‘Blood&Sugar’ presents an intense, sui generis listening experience, challenging preconceived musical dogmas and bridging the divide between the classical and experimental worlds. Guided by the deep artistry of Danish musician and songstress Bianca Nisha, the album unfolds with hypnotic and evocative flair, developing an ever-evolving and eclectic aural narrative. At its most basic level, we find a heartwarming blend of haunting piano, luscious cellos, and a stream of dreamy vocal harmonies, all elements that form the cornerstone of the Bianca Nisha sound.
On top of those, the Danish creative doesn’t certainly limit herself, expanding the sonic palette towards cinematic textures, noisy electronica and an overall sense of sacred. It causes a cathartic sensation that will capture even the most apathetic of listeners out there. ‘Tremble My Heart’ is one of our favourite episodes in the record, with its ethereal vocal tone and magnetic, poignant character. It’s here that we can fully reckon with Nisha’s otherworldly, proficient vocal prowess. If you really think about it, it’s incredible how Bianca can juggle all those elements into a cohesive composition, a feature that showcases the Danish hero not just as a musician, but as a full-blown visionary.
Following up on the project’s 2022 debut, ‘Blood&Sugar’ confirms the heightened artistic stature enjoyed by the Copenhagen-based talent. As she explains: “On Blood&Sugar, I wanted to see how far I could stretch my core sound of piano, cello and layered vocals, keeping the intimacy from my debut, while also reaching into new directions. The cello (my favourite instrument and a kind of self-imposed dogma) is something I keep shaping into new and surprising forms.”
