Matreya Spreads Positivity in Cathartic New Single ‘Be Love’

The keen reader might remember British sensation Matreya from a feature we published earlier this summer, welcoming the return of the Birmingham-based creative in his new artistic and lyrical livery. You see, Matreya was previously known as Mason Noise, achieving nationwide fame thanks to an appearance on X Factor UK in 2015. People grow and mature, and for our hero, that meant embracing a more spiritually-driven, cathartic identity, “an enlightened human willing to accept a brighter, more grounded future”, as we previously described him.

Following up on ‘Eagles’, Matreya has recently unveiled his latest single, ‘Be Love’, a slice of uplifting energy with a deeply eclectic sonic character. Drawing from Afrobeat rhythms as much as it does from R&B elegance, the track unfurls a magical and otherworldly listening experience, building an aural landscape that’s hypnotic and intense. Matreya’s malleable and sultry tone floats freely over the instrumental, at times soaring into cinematic harmonies that are a joy to listen to. It’s a piece that can be danced, if one were keen on it. That’s what good music tends to cause, after all.

‘Be Love’ also features co-production by Reece Hayden and musical director Iwan VanHetten. Delving deeper into the song, the British talent explains: “I wanted this track to feel like a shamanic celebration – a carnival on a spaceship – an otherworldly reminder that the answer to our deepest questions has always been simple: Be Love.”

For anyone in the UK, Matreya is heading on a short tour in November, alongside like-minded artists Becca James and Samuel Ashton. Tickets here.
