Serotone Return with Meaningful Sophomore Single ‘Breathe’

It’s been an unforgettable year for Serotone. Debuting earlier in May with ‘Fool’s Paradise’, the Belfast-based alt-rock/indie outfit returns today with ‘Breathe’, a calmer, more reflective piece that showcases the eclectic pool of influences the group draws from, alongside their lyrical depth and prowess. Embracing a decidedly indie flair, Serotone get familiar with slick, shiny guitar tones, keeping distortions on a close leash. Yet, there’s still plenty of energy going around, well highlighting the track’s melancholic charge and its relatable songwriting.

To be honest, guitars give out not-so-secret hints of new wave flavourings, something that we do appreciate. Overall, ‘Breathe’ truly takes a step back from the euphoric walls of sounds in ‘Fool’s Paradise’. Being that this is the group’s second single to date, we look forward to discovering where they will be headed next. One thing is clear, though: Serotone are not confining themselves to a specific genre box, creatively speaking.

Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the song, lead singer Eamon Donnelly explains: “I wrote this song during a rather hard period of personal struggles. It’s something I feel so uncomfortable having to express to others, which is probably why it needed to be expressed in the form of a song”. The audience will no doubt connect to such intimate honesty, a feature that will go a long way in gaining Serotone a bigger following.
