‘The Future’ is quite a unique piece. Penned by British outfit Emotion Kapture, the single takes a step back from the group’s usual nostalgic new-wave outlook, instead finding a worthy refuge in spoken words and a high-octane, chaotic and aleatory arrangement. Of course, the sonic imprint is still rather retro, with a certain early ’90s earthiness to it. Yet, as its title implies, ‘The Future’ is simply… futuristic, or at least as futuristic as something would be back in the day. It’s a sort of aural retrospect, if you will.
Writing about the world and society around us as a lyrical continuum, ‘The Future’ describes gloomy beliefs and metaphorical imagery with icy vocal delivery, sparking a listening experience that feels relevant and relatable, quite dystopian too, at times. For anyone keen to dive into like-minded material, the single is taken from the overarching album ‘Nature Machine’ by Emotion Kapture, originally released earlier this year.
Hailing from Liverpool, Emotion Kapture features singer and songwriter Pete Jago and producer and musician Tony Denmade, teaming up on a project that finds its authentic roots in the English new wave of the late 80s. Delving deeper into their latest album, the pair explain: “A pounding electro wake-up call to the masses about the world where we have been and where we are heading.”
