What happens when two Australians start playfully advocating for Canadian whiskey? Wattmore happens. Hailing from Brisbane, the talented duo champions a particularly earthy and traditional brand of country and Americana, layering charming instrumentation such as banjos and fiddles against a layer of tongue-in-cheek, (perhaps) controversial lyricism. ‘Canadian Whiskey’ is the perfect example of that.
Wattmore’s latest single, the song was originally written as a light, effortless protest piece to what the US has become today, although we are confident that the Aussie group wouldn’t want anyone to take it too seriously. After all, this is fun, lively music, material designed to make people reflect, while also providing them with a good time. Brothers Aiden and Kai are the talented humans behind Wattmore, guiding a listening experience that’s honest, wholesome and authentic.
They do like to call it what it is, as ‘Canadian Whiskey’ plenty showcases. On this occasion, the pair teamed up with co-writer Allan Caswell, then recorded the track at LWM House Studios with Lindsay Waddington. Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the single, Wattmore explains: “They told us not to release this song. They said it would get us cancelled. That was all the encouragement we needed. So here it is… our career suicide note, set to music.”
