Judy Pearson Shares Evocative, Personal Cut ‘Afterthought’

Following up on her previous romantic, evocative single ‘Dancing With a Stranger’, London-based songstress Judy Pearson has recently returned with another fragment of vulnerability and personal storytelling, ‘Afterthought’. Featuring a more prominent, contemporary pop production, the single finds its unmistakable relatable character in Pearson’s own experience, as it describes an ungrateful and toxic ex-lover, thankfully now just a distant memory.

Drawing from the mythological figure of Epimetheus – ancient Greek for ‘hindsight’ – the song embarks on a cathartic and painful reckoning of a past relationship, delivering lyrical imagery that will likely resonate with a large number of people out there. Recounting being given conditional attention, Pearson explains: “He only thought of me when things were going wrong in his life”.

Today, Judy knows better, and as a quirky silver lining, such a painful experience now serves as inspiration for a rather stunning record. Songwriting aside, ‘Afterthought’ also offers a committed look at Pearson’s luscious, malleable vocals, framing listeners into a vibrant, wholesome piece, a record that oscillates between haunting realism and far-away nostalgia. Keen listeners will be happy to know there’s an EP in the works, set to be released next year. Stay tuned!
