Lovina Falls Unveil Kaleidoscopic EP ‘Would That It Were’

It took us a while to fully understand what Lovina Falls is about. And even now, we are not sure we actually do. We believe that such an eclectic and sui generis quality is one of the project’s main strengths; boldly embracing the unconventional, the Boston-based project borrows from a variety of sources with pride, building a kaleidoscopic sonic universe made up of pop elegance, post-punk grittiness, synth-powered industrialism, and glamorous vintage flair.

Valerie Forgione’s hypnotic, luscious vocals guide it all with charisma and a veiled psychedelic quality. That said, moods and vibes are quite varied throughout the EP, making ‘Would That It Were’ an all-encompassing artistic effort. Take, for instance, the harmonic decadence of ‘Tragedy’; light years away from the groovy cosmic disco rhythms in ‘In The Corner, A Fire’. At the other end of the spectrum, ‘Light and Low’ is a pure post-rock fever-dream.

The EP functions as a cathartic release from the chaos of our times, as Forgione playfully explains: “It’s been quite a year, and like so many other people, I have been trying to figure out how to navigate the unexpected insanity. Pouring myself into this release and working with such exceptional people has given me something far more positive and productive to focus on.” We suspect the listeners will share such sentiment, here provided with a healthy dose of electrifying aural escapism.
