Michelle Cameron Writes About Heartbreak in Upcoming Debut Single ‘Deal Breaker’

Releasing a debut single is always a bold, courageous step for any artist out there. It often resembles sharing a piece of one’s soul with the wider world, and can be relatively scary. Yet, it can also function as a strong cathartic release, a way to finally let go of painful and challenging emotions. Michelle Cameron would agree with us; set to release her debut single ‘Deal Breaker’ next Friday (September 26th), the Dundee-based singer-songwriter appears ready to unveil a highly meaningful and intimate piece, an evocative depiction of an inevitable heartbreak.

Written after the end of a long-term relationship, ‘Deal Breaker’ reflects on how love is often not enough to guarantee the evolution of a romantic endeavour; it also requires shared vision and deep commitment from both parties. Framed into a soothing and slightly melancholic alt-pop livery, the single is rather gentle and elegant, with Cameron’s lush, vulnerable vocals inviting us in with heartwarming flair. The resulting listening experience is precious and nostalgic, a ballad-driven gem that will likely resonate with a large audience out there.

Delving deeper into her debut single, Michelle Cameron explains: “We wanted different things in life, and it’s one of those situations where compromising isn’t possible; hence the name ‘Deal Breaker.’ Writing it was my way of processing that truth. It’s nerve-wracking to release my first single, but it feels exciting and long overdue.” This is a universal message, especially thanks to Cameron being a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community.
