Robert Silvester’s music is certainly not for everyone. To connect with the British creative’s niche and quirky sonic imprint, one has to be bold, curious, and ready to embrace the unknown. It just so happens that we are, indeed, ready to do that, descending into the gloomy, hypnotic and cathartic lands of ‘Fade Away’, Silverster’s latest effort. Also known as the drummer for Trummerkind, Robert showcases an extensive musical flair, excelling both as a musician and producer.
His solo project is rather exciting when it comes to production, as he enjoys walking the fringe territories between post-punk, trip-hop and ethereal electronica. The result is often a stream of soothing textures, gentle beats and cryptic lyricism. We particularly appreciate ‘Fade Away’ for its spoken words, delivered by Silvester himself with legendary, prophetic energy. Packed with an overall haunting mood, the track weaves between doom and salvation, both on a songwriting and sonic level.
Marking Robert’s sixth solo release to date, ‘Fade Away’ is a striking display of his ability. Not so much from a technical perspective, as the production itself could perhaps be improved in terms of impact and depth. Yet, it’s a uniquely creative effort, a record that speaks to each listener intimately, with honesty. One can get lost in it, too – something that would not be the worst, seeing the decadent reality around us.
