Danny Hammons Unveils Wholesome Folk EP ‘Take The Long Road Home’

Described by Danny Hammons himself as “nomadic music for nomadic people”, ‘Take The Long Road Home’ is the result of three years of recording work and countless journeys and adventures. You see, Hammons is not your average creative. Embodying the nostalgic spirit of the American travelling folk-punk acts, Danny delivers a collection of earthy, raw and authentic songs; friendly and relatable pieces steeped in heartwarming imagery and feelings of loneliness and homesickness.

Built on guitar-packed, part-acoustic folk and country instrumental, ‘Take The Long Road Home’ communicates a heightened sense of poignancy and elegance. It’s an evocative record, one that sparks no rush; the listeners should take their time with it, seeking to embrace all of Hammons’ wholesome songwriting and chill, vibrant vocals. Written over the course of ten years, the EP echoes Danny’s busking era, as he played punk houses across the United States with his (ex) folk band Peasants.

The listening experience behind ‘Take the Long Road Home’ is emotional, precious, and even quite soothing; we found it quite extraordinary to immerse ourselves in Hammond’s long travels and nomadic ethos. As Danny explains: “Created during countless hours travelling across America and busking on street corners coast to coast. Railroad tracks and long stretches of highway set the scene. Restlessness, adventure, homesickness and loneliness are all present.”
