Shrunken Elvis Embrace the Unknown in Striking New Album

It took us a while to fully grasp the unique plane of existence occupied by Shrunken Elvis. Based in Nashville, the project collects three seasoned professional musicians, Rich Ruth, Spencer Cullum, and Sean Thompson, all boasting illustrious collaborations at the highest level of the industry. Teaming up on a seemingly freeform, aleatory album, the trio of creatives has just unveiled a prominent and leftfield body of work.

Homonymously titled ‘Shrunken Elvis’, the album takes us to places we have never been before, at least in a waking state. You see, the record functions as a cathartic experimental tool for the fertile minds of Ruth, Cullum and Thompson. Playing by their strengths, the three sonic heroes deliver a stream of hypnotic, ethereal aural goodness, layering steel guitars, synthetisers and textures over a largely beatless frame.

The result is surprising, unexpected, and sui generis. Yet, there’s a heightened sense of warmth in it, a far-reaching familiar trait that puts the listener instantly at ease. Moving between euphoria, soothness, elegance, and poignancy, ‘Shrunken Elvis’ provides a welcome moment of escapism. The gentle, yet firm helping hand you were waiting for.
