RightHandWave Unleash Nostalgic Cut ‘Rebound Girl’

Can we just say, we love ‘Rebound Girl’? It’s energetic, yet quite controlled and evocative. It has a keen early ‘2000s allure, something that deeply connects with us. The author of this article grew up on a substantial amount of teen-driven series back then, so we suspect there’s an unconscious link in it all. Furthermore, one of the mentioned inspirations for the record comes from the 2007 movie ‘Lars & The Real Girl’, starring Ryan Gosling.

So, we successfully established the cultural framework around the single. ‘Rebound Girl’ flourishes on a nostalgic indie-flavoured, pop-rock livery, with charming, heartwarming vocals that stay relatable and friendly. The piece is indeed catchy, especially during the chorus. What if they told you that Rooney (from CA) was one of the sonic influences behind RightHandWave? Do you believe us now? This is early ‘2000s euphoria at its best, and we are here for it.

The Nashville-based group names powerpop as a suitable label for their work; while we can agree, there’s certainly a lot more to it, and perhaps powerpop has a certain Beatle-esque flair that we don’t feel is the right match in this case. However you look at it, ‘Rebound Girl’ remains an exquisite piece of work, a single that doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it perfects it, a nugget of elegant and bittersweet guitar-driven pop.
