We don’t know much about the human behind Santa Paula. What we know for sure, though, is that she’s from Mexico, and she’s insanely talented. ‘You’ is the project’s latest effort, and the track that brings it all to our attention. Following up from 2023’s ‘Borrar’, the single ends an extended hiatus for Santa Paula, who now seems to have returned with her strongest effort to date.
Compared to ‘Borrar’, ‘You’ is hazier, more nuanced and dreamier. Built on soothing vocals and heavenly soundscapes, the record flourishes on angelic harmonies and mellow, hypnotic tones. Santa Paula’s gentle, evocative vocals are the perfect match for such a vibrant and meaningful piece, wrapping listeners into an otherworldly, escapism-driven listening experience.
