It’s not our first rodeo with Cedric D. Writing about the American DJ and producer back in March, we were adamant about the project’s sensible and evocative outlook. You see, Cedric appears to be writing music with purpose, seeking to share a certain message or empower a particular mood. If ‘Breathe’ was blissful and cathartic, D’s latest effort ‘What I See (Remix)’ goes even further, drawing greatly from the soul and R&B tradition.
Blending sultry and dynamic female vocals with a disco-flavoured instrumental, Cedric D stumbles upon a wonderfully nuanced instrumental formula. You’ve got your warm synth pads, your elegant piano tones, and the charming rhythmic guitars, all propped up by a dance-inducing beat. ‘What I See (Remix)’ ends up sounding quite nostalgic, but never obvious. It’s an aural experience, a moment of peace and escapism.
Delving deeper into the record, the Californian creative explains: “It is definitely spiritual, but I wanted to write a song that reminds people of the complexity of being human and how we all have on many levels biased views and opinions of what we see based on past or present events.” As we said, this is wholesome stuff.
