It’s been just over two months since Chandra’s relatable anthem ‘Winners’ was released, a record we celebrated as “catchy, playful lyricism and relentless positive vibes”. That’s also a permanent feature of the Bristol-based band, always eager to deliver uplifting, roaring slices of friendly rock matter. This time around, though, Chandra take a willing detour, unveiling their most pensive release to date. ‘Just With You’ feels evocative and meaningful, yet still packed with sharp guitars and a fuzzy character.
Out now via Rexius Records, ‘Just With You’ successfully blends smooth pop melodies and ballad-style rock, a formula that comes particularly alive during the guitar solo, truly expressive and poignant. From a lyrical standpoint, the song is quite nostalgic, exploring the heartwarming and comfortable feeling of a distant positive memory. It’s quite an introspective offering for Chandra, so much so that it required a lot of hard work to get it done, especially from a vocal perspective.
As head honcho Chandra himself explains: “I knew that this had to be the best singing I’d ever done because it had to be so real, so powerful and yet so vulnerable at the same time in order to convey these messages with authenticity. But when I wrote this melody, I couldn’t initially sing it because it’s right on the range limit at both ends. I felt so much pressure to get it right, but thankfully, producer Elliot Vaughan coaxed it out of me in the end.”
