‘Pool’ serves as our point of entry into Kaela’s rich, vibrant artistic universe. Not that she needed an introduction: her previous work as a key live member of M83 and collaborations with the likes of Sofi Tukker, among others, have already made her a prominent creative figure in the music industry. Yet, ‘Pool’ helps us understand Kaela’s own vision and vulnerabilities, developing a hazy and cinematic synth-powered soundscape that’s cathartic and otherworldly.
The track arrives with a stunning visual counterpart, an animated video created by design and motion studio Ravie & Co. Widening the reasoning behind the single, Kaela explains: “It explores the idea of venturing into the subconscious. The sound of water and delicate chimes create a sense of memory and curiosity, while the harmonic structure takes unexpected turns that open doors to new mental and emotional spaces.”
