Marcus Cetera Delves Into the Human Psyche with Comeback Single ‘You No Me’

‘You No Me’ serves as our point of entry into Marcus Cetera’s nuanced, reflective artistic universe. Hailing from Berlin, the talented creative enjoys a colourful life, jumping from visual arts (he’s a trained designer) to the aural field with confidence and inspiration. A gifted songwriter and composer, Cetera first took a stab at the music industry back in 2012 with a debut album. Today, Marcus returns to his roots, unveiling an intense and gloomy offering steeped in lyrical introspection and psychological themes.

Confiding with his wife, a trained psychologist, Cetera was able to initiate a deep dive into “trauma, survival and the space between”, all topics that feel particularly relevant in our modern world, a dark and scary place that’s seemingly descending into madness. Yet, Marcus helps us make sense of it, sharing ‘You No Me’, a track that’s surprisingly crepuscular and decadent. Flourishing on eerie acoustic guitars and cinematic textures, the piece is hard-hitting and meaningful.

Cetera’s evocative, cathartic vocals are the perfect match for such melancholic aural goodness. It sort of reminds us of the likes of PJ Harvey, The National, but also of Nine Inch Nails, among others. ‘You No Me’ ends on a more anthemic note, with veiled electronica helping the record explode into nostalgic and reflective euphoria. Overall, Marcus Cetera’s artistic direction feels coherent and committed: looking forward to seeing what’s next for the Berlin-based creative.
