Jesse Blake Rundle Shares Intense Art Rock Album ‘Wait, Sky’

We’ll be honest: it’s hard to find a common perspective on ‘Wait, Sky’. Marking Jesse Blake Rundle’s latest album, the record is incredibly nuanced and immersive, sparking a listening experience that’s intimate and reflective, one that will likely resonate with people in all sorts of different ways. What we can certainly do is praise Rundle for his bold artistic courage; he doesn’t worry about fitting a popular formula or chasing trends, instead penning a highly unique record.

The sonic references are curious and wide-ranging, from crepuscular indie piece to leftfield art-rock motifs, passing through whimsical instrumentals (the likes of ‘middle, madness’, among others). One could liken some of the material to something Thom Yorke could come up with, or to the eclecticism typical of transformative acts like Grizzly Bear. Eventually, one must recognise Jesse Blake Rundle’s unmatched personal flair, constantly waving through darkness and light and letting his darkest emotions come to the surface.

Delving deeper into the album’s ethos, the American creative explains: “These songs started as quiet thoughts I didn’t expect to share. But as I worked, a larger story started to emerge—the roles we take on, the absurdity of power, and how people vanish into roles they create for themselves”. ‘Wait, Sky’ is out now via Doe Records.
