MothBreath Return with Darker Jewel ‘Weightless Words’

We have slowly become accustomed to MothBreath’s hazy, feverish aural universe. It’s quite unmistakable. Incredibly expansive and cathartic, the Frome, UK-based duo finds their strength in trip-hop flavourings and dreamy electronica, a sonic formula that’s quite nostalgic, yet unique and wholesome. Following up on their previous single ‘Freedom Machine’, released back in April, MothBreath are now back with another slice of eclectic charisma, ‘Weightless Words’.

It’s an intense, evocative offering, one that flourishes on a great deal of luscious guitars and electro-rock rhythms, courtesy of John’s keen instrumental talent and production flair. Kirsty’s sky-reaching vocals are an absolute standout, commanding the listeners’ attention with an attitude that’s both sultry and fierce, not to mention truly elegant. We feel as though ‘Weightless Words’ carries a distinct new wave character, one that pops up from time to time in MothBreath’s catalogue.

On that note, their latest single is certainly darker and gloomier, showcasing the observant spirit and relatable songwriting guiding the British duo. Expressing their frustration at the current political mess the world seems to be entangled in, MothBreath explain: “We are voicing the frustration of inaction and empty rhetoric of world leaders in the mounting series of global crises.”
