Following up on his debut release ‘RKR’, released back in June, Berlin-based Pakistani producer and creative Double Major seems to have struck gold once again, returning with a catchy and uplifting slice of electro-pop and nu-disco extravaganza. ‘KBN’ is exactly that. Perhaps less dancefloor-oriented than its predecessor, the track still finds luscious synths and hypnotic beats, helping convey the elegant and nostalgic artistry behind Double Major.
His vocals are the perfect match for such an eclectic formula, delivering bright harmonies and memorable motifs, a joy to listen to. That said, looking at ‘KBN’ as an electro piece is certainly quite reductive. Packed with hidden meaning and personal references, the record flourishes on connection with the Pakistani scene. As Double Major explains: “The disco era in Pakistan in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, was more than just a music movement”.
Delving deeper into the inspiration behind ‘KBN’ and his upcoming EP, Major continues: “My inspiration for this EP is this spirit of dance that brought people together in a time where artistic expression in my country and South Asia was valued the most. My music wants to reconnect us to this colourful past, and bring everyone together on the dance floor with undeniable grooves, fat synth bass, and silky vocal lines.”
