It’s album time for Micheal Fordays! We have proudly followed the Los Angeles-based troubadour and rocker for a while now, and while his sonic imprint is rather nostalgic and influenced by the rock’s greatest, his songwriting is instead quite personal and meaningful, truly exposing all the creative flair Fodays has to offer. ‘The Odds of Magic’ is the strongest evidence of that, a wonderful album that showcases all the musical and personal growth enjoyed by its author.
We reviewed the title track a few weeks ago, celebrating it as “an experimental take on his usual style”. Well, it turns out that there’s a lot more of that in the wider album. Pairing with frequent collaborator Dave Klein, here on production duties, Micheal pens a long tracklist with nine episodes, all ranging from cathartic, psychedelic fast-tempo numbers to more conventional, fuzzy rock nuggets. Whichever way you look at it, it’s appropriate to pay heightened attention to Fordays’ lyricism.
Delving deeper into his intimate songwriting process, the American artist explains: “I am constantly calculating the meaning of existence and trying to express what I can as a music writer and human. I begin the process of writing with a clean palette, listening to the vibrations and fishing the stars to hear what is aligned with my presence. I sit with an unamplified Les Paul, a pen, and a piece of paper, not pushing myself, instead just musing on something I want to hear”.
