Rasha Jay Shares Soulful Gem ‘Purple Hours’

Following up on ‘SAY’, American creative Rasha Jay is now back with another imaginative, meaningful single, ‘Purple Hours’. The sonic references are certainly quite different, with the new single taking a step back from Jay’s previous pop-rock influences. Instead, ‘Purple Hours’ finds its selling point in an elegant, soulful arrangement, caressing soul-pop and R&B with charming and evocative flair.

The perfect release for summer time, ‘Purple Hours’ is a truly powerful record; packed with bright and sultry imagery, the song seeks to evoke a luscious feeling, an endeavour that’s facilitated by Rasha’s immersive vocal harmonies and heartwarming, playful tone. Guest guitarist Liza Light further enriches the sonic picture, lending her instrumental prowess to Jay’s cause in the form of a hypnotising guitar solo.

Co-produced by Jay and Los Angeles-based duo NONEWLOVERS, ‘Purple Hours’ is a strong offering. Delving deeper into the inspiration behind the record, Rasha explains: “I wrote ‘Purple Hours’ after reading some literature, and was always in awe at how they used to describe times of the day, the weather, the scene… it was always beautiful and interesting. I wanted to write a song that talks about a time of day that is just for you, or you and someone else, a calm, confident space, that only you know about.”
