A keen composer and musician, Richard Green enjoys a truly eclectic artistry. At home in classical settings as he is in modern territories, the Italian, UK-based creative has recently returned with his latest work, ‘Happy Monday’, a slice of rock and blues virtuosity all wrapped in catchy melodies and nuanced musicianship. Channelling some of his more eclectic influences, Green is seen drawing from the likes of John Frusciante, as well as from John Mayer and Prince, among others.
The result is a piece that’s certainly contemporary and urgent, yet also wrapped in aural nostalgia; after all, Green has been listening to a wide variety of music from an early age, something that helped him develop such a rich and informed aural taste. ‘Happy Monday’ is also rather groovy, showcasing a touch of funk and pop flair that’s never out of place. Overall, the composition feels carefree, playful and uplifting, exactly what we would expect from it.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the record, Green explains: “I composed ‘Happy Monday’ mostly for fun and my pleasure, but I liked the idea a lot, so I then brought it to my drummer and bass player to make it a proper tune. The song is inspired by the way Monday is described as the worst day of the week. I wanted to spin that concept and give it a touch of positivity.”
