Kevin Driscoll Debuts with Liminal, Meaningful Gem ‘Black It Out’

A heartbreak is always a fertile moment for any creatives and artists out there. Of course, it does involve a hefty amount of painful feelings and frustration, which are never pleasant experiences. Yet, if channelled correctly, such a turbulent event can offer a great deal of personal reckoning, better expressed through a song or a piece of visual art. For Kevin Driscoll, the end of a relationship served as a spark of inspiration, pushing him to explore the difficulty of moving on from a broken relationship.

‘Black It Out’ is the perfect evidence of that. A haunting, liminal effort, the record develops within an austere, minimalistic framework. An obscure acoustic guitar, hidden textures and Driscoll’s whispered, intimate vocals; that’s all it takes for the Jacksonville-based musician to pen an absolute wonder, a melancholic, gloomy piece steeped in introspection and personal research. What’s more, ‘Black It Out’ is also Driscoll’s debut effort, a hypnotising slice of wholesome artistry and quirky character.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Driscoll explains: “This song is about how difficult it sometimes is to move on from the end of a relationship, when it’s never gonna work, all hope is lost, there is nothing you can do, they are never coming back and, you can’t handle it… Black It Out.” Richard Dudley is on sound engineering duties, working from Long Jump Record studios in Jacksonville, Florida.
