Following up on January’s ‘My Dearest Maddy’ EP, Canadian songstress Maddy Little appears ready to enter a fiercer, punchier artistic era, swapping acoustic-driven, poignant songwriting for a slick indie rock livery, quite fiery and catchy. Yet, the project’s introspective songwriting is still present. ‘Over It’ is the perfect evidence of that; boasting an anthemic guitar-powered livery, the piece does a good job of balancing Little’s evocative vocals and stadium-ready hooks.
Written as a playful reaction to a classic ‘situationship’, ‘Over It’ shines a light on a storyline that’s rather common these days, adding to the single’s enhanced relatability. We suspect a lot of like-minded peeps will resonate with Little’s honest, vulnerable lyricism. Eventually, Maddy reaches a powerful reckoning, declaring herself ‘Over It’, reclaiming her independence and control.
Recorded in Toronto at Genesis Sound, the record benefits from the help of frequent collaborators Matt Snell, Christian Turner, and Konrad Comisso. As Little explains: “They’ve been my favourite people to work with, and I think everything we’ve made has felt special and had a wonderful time making music with them.”
