Penned by Dutch troubadour David & The Circumstances, the single finds its unmistakable aural livery among soothing fingerpicked guitars and a tapestry of evocative textures, the perfect match for David’s suave, lush vocal tone.
Written as a reaction to a long, transformative journey, ‘Sunrise’ seeks to celebrate the sense of renewal and the challenging turmoil of emotions that a long trip can often include, then sparking a new era of reckoning and newly-found identity. Inspired by a road trip along California’s Pacific Coast Highway, David explains: “The beauty of the sunlight hitting the water suddenly evoked an overwhelming sense of gratitude for being alive.”
A nuanced, meaningful effort, ‘Sunrise’ can be seen as an aural chiaroscuro, a committed piece willing to navigate the grey area between poignancy and hope, learning from the past yet looking at the future with bittersweet joy. Another trip to Norway, on the Atlantic Ocean Road, influenced the record’s music video, filmed by David’s partner Tanya Gupta.
