If ‘Top Shelf’ is anything to go by, Anna Dahl is set for a glorious year. Marking the American songstress’ debut effort, the single anticipates an EP expected later this summer. Drenched in uplifting country energy and relatable, personal lyricism, Dahl’s artistic output is surprisingly good, with potent, evocative vocals crowning it all. Of course, that might not be a surprise for anyone familiar with Anna’s creative journey. Courted by major labels in her younger years, the Madison, WI area native then stepped back from actively pursuing a career for family and educational reasons.
Yet, it was meant to be. Connecting with a series of top Nashville musicians in November 2024 at the notable Sound Emporium Studios, Dahl found herself within the grace of the music gods once again, penning wonderful and lively country gems, the perfect match for any keen Americana and country lover. What’s more, Anna’s vocal tone is still incredibly vivid and dynamic, wrapping us all into a fictional euphoric aural landscape, one where fierceness, vulnerability and honesty are the main keywords.
‘Top Shelf’ is the perfect evidence of that; an electrifying, catchy anthem, the single is as good as they come, with producer and musician Don Miggs lending his expert musicianship to the cause. Speaking about the song, Dahl explains: “‘Top Shelf’ is a playful take on a girls’ night out; a sing-along song for the girls and a lesson for the boys. She has high values and self-worth. It’s going to take more than a cheap beer to catch her attention and a whole lot more to keep her!”
